Washington, D.C. – January 18, 2024 – Former U.S. Senator John Breaux (D-LA), senior advisor for Saving America’s Family Enterprises (SAFE), issued the following statement applauding the IRS’s announcement that it has collected nearly $500 million in ongoing efforts to recoup taxes owed by millionaires:
“As an organization focused on tax reforms that increase fairness, we commend the IRS for taking important steps to close the nation’s historic tax gap and ensure that the wealthy pay what they owe. This further underscores the effectiveness of targeted initiatives to enforce existing tax laws, as opposed to pursuing unworkable ‘guess taxes’ that will undermine the IRS’s mission and hurt family-owned businesses. Throughout 2024, SAFE will continue to educate policymakers and the public about ways we can responsibly raise revenue, promote greater efficiency, and encourage companies to do more business in the United States.”
Saving America’s Family Enterprises (SAFE) is a bipartisan research and education organization focused on comprehensive tax reforms that raise revenue, increase fairness, promote greater efficiency, and encourage companies to do more business in the United States.
